Honoring Joe Coots

the world lost a remarkable man in February. Our good friend and Huskies Fore Hope spokesman, Joe Coots, passed away—leaving behind a legacy of kindness, talent, and deep friendship that will not be forgotten.

Joe first came to DeKalb to help open the NIU Convocation Center as its marketing director, but it wasn’t long before he followed his true passion—acting. His talent took him to Broadway national tours of The Full Monty and Kinky Boots, and to television in shows like Modern Family, Rescue Me, Chicago Fire, and many more.

During the pandemic, Joe returned to the area to be closer to family.  He became an integral part of Fatty’s Huskies Fore Hope Golf Outing benefiting Shriners Children’s Chicago—a cause that meant the world to him, as he was once a patient there himself.

In honor of Joe’s memory and the incredible impact he had on so many lives, Huskies Fore Hope is proud to announce a new $250,000 fundraising campaign to name the rehabilitation gym at Shriners Children’s Chicago in his honor. $100,000 has already been raised toward this goal.

Every dollar raised continues to go directly to Shriners Children’s Chicago, helping pediatric patients receive the life-changing care they need regardless of the family’s ability to pay or insurance status. Now, those contributions also serve as a tribute to Joe—a man whose life was defined by generosity, passion, and love for his community.

Help us honor Joe Coots. Help us continue his legacy.
